In Matthew 13, Jesus tells the story of a farmer going out to plant his seed. These powerful seeds, in the right soil, will produce an abundant crop in time. Sierra Send materials such as Bible videos in the Tarahumara language are utilized as seeds to be scattered in settings such as the Hospital Misión Tarahumara (located in the heart of the Sierra). Tarahumara people often travel on foot for many hours to reach the hospital and receive medical care as well as hear the Word of God in their own language.

One video in particular, The Story of God, was written and produced specifically for settings such as the hospital. Some patients may only be hospitalized for one day so this video tells God’s story from creation to Christ and can be shown in one sitting. For animistic people such as the Tarahumara, it is important to tell His story in this way. Introducing the true God of creation and setting the stage for the Savior utilizing Old Testament stories paints a more complete picture for many Tarahumara who see God in a very different way. For example, many believe God that created the Tarahumara, and the devil created everyone else. As a result, the Tarahumara feel that they are the ones responsible to feed and appease God, keeping Him alive through their animal sacrifices and dancing (see video of Tarahumara ritual.)

Please pray that these seeds of God’s Word to take root in many hearts as they are being scattered throughout the Sierra Tarahumara. Pray for the Tarahumara patients at Hospital Misión Tarahumara, that they would experience deep physical and spiritual healing, and that they would come to know the God who created them and loves them.
